can't run perl script

I have downloaded and installed XAMPP for Mac OS X. I am running 10.5.6. I can start all the components fine.

So now I have created a page in /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs that calls on a perl script located in /Applications/xampp/cgi-bin/ The script just simply takes info from a form and writes it into a text file that is located in /Applications/xampp/htdocs/database.txt The first line of my perl script is #!/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/bin/perl When I try to submit the form, the browser only displays the text of the form rather than executing it.

I have searched this forum and several others but have not found a solution to the problem. Is there anyone out there who might know what I've done wrong?
