adding libraries to xampp to run a ruby on rails based CMS

Hi there !

I am interested in adapting xampp to include ruby/ruby on rails dependencies in order to provide a simple installer for a CMS (http://zenadmin.org).

Could anyone give me some clue on where to start ? I understand that xampp uses libtool to compile the libraries but I do not understand how.

For example, how is mysql compiled ?

Hi,

i think all the necessary stuff is compiled with the gcc. MySQL however is normally not compiled, as MySQL delivers precompiled Packages for nearly every OS.

If you want to use RoR with XAMPP, i think you need something like mod_ruby or mod_rails: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/mod_ruby

understand for the mysql librairies, but they live in a special location with xampp, so I think they need to be compiled in order to work there...

I would like to use mongrel with apache. But the first step would be to compile ruby within the xampp environment.

Hi,

no, you just Download mysql and run the installation program. This will make all necessary changes. That's the reason why xampp must be installed in the specified directory.

OK, had a look into the mongrel source files, but i have really no clue from Mac. I fear that you have to wait for the Mac-Gurus

Ok, I understand.

The installer just copies all files into classical /lib/ /bin/ directories. I thought xampp worked more like some kind of chrooted environment and all files would lie into /Applications/xampp/...
