Can't upload files

I installed XAMPP on my mac, but I can't upload files through a PHP script.
When I use the same script on my "real" server it works fine.

Is this a shortcoming of XAMPP or did I do something wrong?

I found the solution. This is what I did:
1. Find the php.ini file (/Applications/xampp/etc).
2. Find the variable 'upload_tmp_dir' and set it to a dir that is writable.
3. Restart XAMPP and the uploading should work.
