xampp mysql terminal not UTF8 compatible?

Postby zoosker » 18. January 2008 03:53

How do I get the mysql terminal administration tool to recognize multibyte characters?

When I login to the mysql terminal application, I am unable to use any characters requiring utf-8 encoding. For example, when I type the Euro symbol (€), I get '??' instead.

I am using Xampp 0.3 (19) for Mac OSX. I've setup a table to use UTF-8, and have set my.cnf to use default-character-set=utf8 for both [mysqld] and [client] areas. Insertion and selection from PHP works fine -- characters are preserved as expected.

On Ubuntu with native mysql installed (not Xampp), I do not get this problem, and I can type the euro symbol fine. What can I do to get similar behavior on Mac OSX?

THANKS!!!! 8)

EDIT: Verifed with 0.7 as well.

>When I login to the mysql terminal application

What is that? Do you mean "phpmyadmin"?

No, I mean the terminal application executed using 'mysql -uroot -p'.
