New to Mac

I am a brand new mac user (OS X 10.5 imac with intel) and have very little understanding about the way things work.
I have downloaded the latest Xampp for mac and installed. I start it up, but when I go to http://localhost/ Safari comes up with the standard Mac Apache Page. I cant get the new php page. and no php pages work.
How do i disable Leopard's server. Or make Xampps server the primary one?

System preferences/sharing make sure non is checked.
