problem with the application folder after installing xampp

hi I installed xampp and had some problem running it, so i followed the instructions on this post,

which I did as a root user and this fixed the problem, now xampp is running perfectly fine, but when I login as non root user, I see the application folder which contains only xampp, rest of the applications are missing, when i try clicking on applicaitons in dock, it shows a question mark. I tried searching it using spotlight, but can't find it. again if i login as root, I can see my applications there. Can anyone help me out of this, can it be fixed or I will have to reinstall the os.
