Postby anand » 23. December 2006 05:40

Hi,

I have recently downloaded the Xampp for Mac OS and i using a MacBook Pro Intel version 2GHz Intel Core Duo.

After the downlaod i opened the terminal and ran the sudo su command which prompted me for the password dialog. After which i typed the password as shown on the website. http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html

This is the message i see on my terminal window.

Welcome to Darwin!
stars-computer:~ Renukanand$ sudo su

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:
sudo: 2 incorrect password attempts

I am not a techie but i do understand some basics. Could you please guide me as to how i can load the Xampp successfully on my MAC.

Please aslo let me know where i am going wrong.

I downloaded the file on my desktop. Do you think that this error may be due to the where the downloaded file is stored(i mean the desktop)

I greatly appreciate your feedback in this matter.

Best regards,
Anand

Dear Anand,

for "sudo su" you need to be an admin user on your MacBook.
When it prompts for a password, this is _your_ password, which you
use to login to your MacBook or to install updates etc.

I had this too, this means you did not succesfully do this:

After downloading simply run the following commands in a terminal:

Installation requires an admin account.
# Enter „sudo su“. You will be prompted for a password.
# tar xfvz xampp-macosx-0.6a.tar.gz -C /

Notice: all old installations of XAMPP for MacOS X will be overwritten!

That's all. XAMPP is now installed below the /Applications/xampp directory.

If not done correctly, all permissions are broken inside the xampp folder, thus resulting in the fopen and fwrite errors.
