How i can start the ProFTPD???

Postby f.g.m. » 18. December 2006 19:20

Hi, i have almost the functions of XAMPP working. I just can`t turn "Secure" the FTP password and get this:

The FTP password for user nobody is still 'xampp' UNSECURE
By using the default password for the FTP user nobody everyone can upload and change files for your XAMPP webserver. So if you enabled ProFTPD you should set a new password for user nobody.

Then i go to the Terminal an write the command: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/mampp security and, when i'm in the FTP Password i get this:

XAMPP: The FTP password is still set to 'xampp'.
XAMPP: Do you want to change the password? [yes] yes
XAMPP: Password:
XAMPP: Password (again):
/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/share/xampp/checkftppassword: line 61: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/temp/xampp1143: No such file or directory
cp: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/temp/xampp1143: No such file or directory
rm: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/temp/xampp1143: No such file or directory
XAMPP: ProFTPD isn't running...
XAMPP: Done.

So, how can i get run the ProFTPD to change the password and get "Secure" in this section???

Hi f.g.m.!
I just downloaded and installed xampp today an have had the same promlem.

The solution for me was to create manually the following directory:

After this the script mampp security worked very well and without errors.

if you want to use the user nobody you have to modify another file too (after running the securing script).

The file is the following:

There should be a line with the following content:
UserPass nobody XXXXXXXX (where 'XXXXXXXX' is your encrypted password)
simply add a line above with the content:
RequireValidShell off

I don't remember I you have to restart the proftp-deamon. After this it worked fine for me.

Hopes I could support you.
Best regards,
