Error 126! Couldn't start Apache!

Postby brianmeyer » 12. December 2006 23:19

Using PowerPC G4 (2.0) and downloaded the xampp package for OS X.

downloaded the file, and ran the tar command using sudo directly
i got the following error.... deleted entire installation and did "sudo su" exactly like instructions.

Starting XAMPP for MacOS X 0.6a...
/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/share/xampp/phpstatus: line 4: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/bin/php: cannot execute binary file
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL ...
XAMPP: Error 126! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/mampp: line 221: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/sbin/proftpd: cannot execute binary file
XAMPP: Error 126! Couln't start ProFTPD!
XAMPP for MacOS X started.

Trying to run the HTTPD file directly it says cannot run binary file. I also saw others with this problem via google-- one running the linux build on yellowdog linux on a mac with exact same errors, and the other with a response in german.

Any ideas?

Could this have something to do with the new support for intel chips?

Dear brianmeyer,

this issue might not just have something to do with the "Intel chips",
this version is Intel only. It will not run on your Power PC G4 I'm afraid.

Sorry,

thanks

i went and got a previous version and that worked.

it would be wise to make available on the mac download page a choice of downloads, one for PPC and one for Intel with a direct link for each. Not everyone has a new mac, and it should be made easier for those folks to know that it won't work for them. Hopefully the PPC version can get some updates as time goes on as well. I also miss the package installer, not that im afraid of the terminal, but i vastly preferred installing the older version. The command line is not something i use a lot on my mac.
