HELP, Newbie needs help :)

Have installed Xampp on OSX, get:

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

from phpmyadmin,

Component
Status
Hint

MySQL database DEACTIVATED
PHP ACTIVATED
Perl ACTIVATED
Common Gateway Interface (CGI) ACTIVATED
Server Side Includes (SSI) ACTIVATED

from XAMPP Status.
I origionally installed all services. I lost it when I went and did the security prompt. Now, MySQL seems to be deactivated and when i go to terminal, I can start and stop it. It also says it's running in Mysql manager under the folder server.

I'm dumbfounded and don't know what to do. Help, before I dip my head underwater again...

mySQL might already be running

I was having the same problem. Turns out that I needed to turn on a previous install of mySQL on my machine.

If you have mySQL running, turn it off, then restart XAMPP
