Donate for new hardware

Postby Kristian Marcroft » 24. May 2006 10:12

Dear XAMPP for MacOS X users,

currently we are suffering a hardware fault of our development MacOS X machine.
Therefore it is currently not possible for us to release a updated release.
As Apache Friends is financed completely private and we do not get any money for what we do,
if you would like to help us buy new development hardware to continue the XAMPP for MacOS X
development, please donate to our paypal account which you may find on our MacOS X part of our website.

We would like to appologize for this inconvenience and hope be be back with XAMPP for MacOS X very soon.

Regards
Apache Friends

Hey Mike,

thank you for your reply.
Though we have currently just bought a Intel MacMini and are trying to create universal binaries.for XAMPP for MacOS X.
If this fails, we would appreciate your donation.
We'll pay shipping, thats not the problem. I'll get back to you as soon as we know more.

Regards,

Good to hear you've got a Mac Mini now!

Any word on when you may have universal binaries?

Hi,

currently it does not look like we will have universal binaries at all.
We are 90% finished with an Intel version though.

Hi,

we have not yet tested building PPC binaries.
Once the intel Version works 100% and there is a release, we'll have a go at PPC.

Well, there is quite a difference in how everything works if you compare intel to ppc. Since Mac is now only releasing Intel PCs and has OS X Leopard as the first all-Intel build (it does run on PPC, but it was built for Intel), I do see not much reason for the creators of XAMPP to put much effort in creating a PPC version which will be hardly used.

Also, if you own a PPC mac (or intel for that matter) it is quite easy to set up a web site there, XAMPP is just a luxury product for those who want everything integrated :)

Well your product is much appreciated. Still, I would imagine that many can't afford those intel Macs or we are waiting for the day when the ppc dies off, which, considering I know someone still using System 4, may be a long time.

take it for what it's worth

Nice product all the same.

You should charge for support. The forums are too slow, not enough people. I would gladly pay a reasonable price for help - $10-20 per month or something. You may only get money at first, as people get started with the product, but it is better than nothing. At this point I will gladly give you $20 to answer my questions, even for just a week. I need this program for work, and it is the only one I have found that gets me where I need, but I keep getting stuck!
