Help required to select and install XAMPP on my Macbook Air

Hi,
I'm a little bit lost when i try to download and install XAMPP and would like to be coached. The differences between XAMPP for OS and XAMPP-VM are explained in the FAQ but that doesn't tell me which one i should prefer. Then i followed the link that brings me to the download page where a list of the versions available (3 versions times 2, the only visible difference is the download size: 160MB vs 360MB, and the version numbers) but without any comment or advice i feel blind. Moreover when i download the version i think should be the most appropriate for me, I just get a "bz2" file which cannot be installed. I then searched for "dmg" files and downloaded the "installer" one which installed XAMPP correctly, everything works fine but i don't get the "stack manager" window as shown on the site, so that I can't reroute my port 8080 to 80. To summarize: which one of the dmg file should I select and how can I reroute the 8080 port to 80?

Hello,

I've donwloaded and installed the "xampp-osx-8.0.12-0-vm.dmg" file on Mac OS 11.6 Big Sur, but when i click on the "start" button i get the following error

Error starting "XAMPP" stack

cannot calculate MAC address: Using fd 9 for I/O notifications
hv_vm_create HV_ERROR (unspecified error)


Any idea?

The Xampp VM Version does not run on M1 CPU, only Intel CPU is supported.

You should install a non-VM version instead.
