Hello, again, Altrea:

Glad to learn that I've installed the correct native version, not the VM version.

Sorry to learn that you aren't a Mac user. I need someone with that familiarity to guide me. What do you suggest I do to reach Mac users on Apache Friends?

As far as an error log, I found one inside Applications > XAMPP. It's locked and has its last date entered in December, so I don't think that it will be helpful.

When you compare the screenshots I provided, have I installed the correct version number, "7.4.18-0," despite the fact that the file in the Applications folder shows it as v. "1.0.3"? How is that explained?

And, yes, I have MAMP installed in Applications. I installed it four days ago in the event that I get nowhere on correcting the XAMPP problem. Should I delete it now, while there's still hope that I can correct this XAMPP problem?

You cannot do any more than wait and hope that someone else replies on your topic.

Related to the XAMPP for MAC FAQ (Question "Apache doesn't seem to start. What can I do?") the log should be located here: /Applications/XAMPP/logs/error_log

XAMPP is a bundle of single components, each with there own version numbers. So maybe 1.0.3 is the version number for a single component like the XAMPP Manager?

MAMP is a webserver bundle like XAMPP too. If you don't need both for any reason you can and should uninstall one.
Maybe it would also help to just stop the MAMP components, maybe that would already solve your start problem.

I had been trying to recover the files for the HTDOC and databases but nothing... Where are located? I pretend to recover without reinstall XAMPP or install the last version, of course if I go trough the last version I will not chose the VM one... but How can I recover the files?

Last time I reinstall but lost the files and databases.

Hello, again, Altrea. It's "wcamp." I'm glad to learn from you that I did install the native version, not the VM version. Thanks for confirming that.

Regarding your statement that "there must be an error log," I checked and found that the "error_log" file, located in Applications > XAMPP > logs, is empty. See this in my latest screenshot below. Does that help you determine where to look for the cause of my problem that prevents me from viewing my pages locally on Chrome and Safari?

Regarding your final comment, I've now deleted all of the MAMP-related files from my OS. Unfortunately, I still can't XAMPP to allow me to view web pages of mine locally on "localhost" with Chrome and Safari.

What might you (or an AF moderator who's more familiar with the Mac OS) suggest I do next to restore XAMPP to a reliable application?

Many thanks, in advance, Altrea!

Hi, all:

Five days have passed without anyone commenting or suggesting what might be the cause and remedy of this problem.

Might there be a Mac user who can help diagnose the problem?

I hope so.

Thanks, in advance.

I know it's been a while since anyone commented but I've been searching for a solution and I think I found it. I also wanted to save my files from htdocs but since XAMPP wasn't working I wasn't able to back them up.

First make sure you are able to see hidden files. (press together Shift Command period to view hidden files, folder, etc)
Go to the users folder->(your username)->bitnami->stockman->machines->XAMPP.
Copy the XAMPP folder and save it somewhere else.
Now run terminal and type in the following command:
Code: Select all
rm -rf ~/.bitnami/stackman
This will delete the stockman folder so make sure you copied the XAMPP folder first!

Now run XAMPP again and if it starts working you can close it. If not, you will probably need to reinstall it
Now go back to users folder->(your username)->bitnami->stockman->machines->XAMPP.
Replace the XAMPP folder with the one you perviously copied.
Now run XAMPP and your files should be there.
