Cannot calculate MAC address

Problems with the Mac OS X version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Cannot calculate MAC address

Postby SimplySimon » 05. February 2021 19:16

XAMPP has been working well, until the latest Beta upgrade to Big Sur v11.3 Beta (20E5172i) When I click the Start button the following error is produced:

cannot calculate MAC address: hv_vm_create unknown error -85377023

Any suggestions?

Hi!

I had the same problem. For me it was solved by installing the non-VM version, which is about 150mb big instead of 300mb.

Apparently the VM version is the default version so you have to choose it under the download page.

Hope it solves your problem too

I tried downloading the latest version and it defaulted every setting I had changed to the original settings... not at all helpful!

Hi.

I've just installed xampp-osx-8.0.1-1-vm.dmg in a Mac OS Big Sur Apple Silicon chip (M1).

When I click the start button I get this message: "Error starting "XAMPP" stack"

Details: cannot calculate MAC address: hv_vm_create unknown error - 85377023

In my case I've been using the VM to replicate a medium sized website in my machine. The non-vm version would be hard to set up.

Thanks

The vm version requires an (newer) Intel CPU for running. The error you get is exactly what it says when your CPU does not meet the Intel specifications. M1 is not supported.

So why did it work before [original question]?

I just received this message after installing VM-8.0.3 on my 2018 Intel iMac where I previously ran XAMPP without an issue. I understand that XAMPP is not yet compatible with Apple M1 that I have on my new MacAir but is it also incompatible with Big Sur running on any Mac?

I've two macs, one Intel Mac provided by my company to work and an Apple Sillicon Mac for personal stuff. The XAMP VM works perfectly in the Intel Mac.

I've successfully installed an ARM64 Ubuntu Server 20.04 VM in my Mac Apple Silicon M1 Macbook Pro. I'm using https://mac.getutm.app/ (also open source https://mac.getutm.app/licenses/ ). It's also based in QEMU. Using port forwarding for the ports 22 and 80 I almost can replicate what I use to do with the XAMP VM.

I'm also trying to work with the XAMP installer (8.0.3.0), that it seems to work (except for ProFTPD).
