WordPress 6.0 will be the second major release of 2022. Following WordPress 5.9 Joséphine, 6.0 will aim to refine and iterate on the customization tools introduced earlier this year. In preparation, this post includes target dates, features, and squads. This release will follow the same cadence as 5.9, with a long alpha and short beta periods before the release candidate phase.

Version 6.0 is expected to be a conceptual wrap of Phase 2 of the so called Gutenberg project,
covering the visual site-building tools. these tools will continue playing a crucial role in future development of WordPres
but developers will likely shift much of their focus to Phase 3 for WordPress 6.1 and beyond.

The following are the four phases outlined in the long-term roadmap:

Easier Editing: Block-based content editing.
Customization: FSE, block patterns, block directory, block themes, and global styles.
Collaboration: Co-authoring content.
Multilingual: Implementation of multilingual sites.
