Can't install MySQL

Einfach Dinge, die nichts mit XAMPP, Apache Friends, Apache, MySQL, PHP und alle dem zu tun haben. Allerlei halt. ;)

Can't install MySQL

Postby registereduser » 05. September 2013 10:59

previously I installed MySQL 5.1, but my program couldn't connect to it, so I installed mySQL 5.0 and it said there's already a MySQL service, so I renamed the new service MySQL2. It still didn't work, and so I uninstalled both MySQL in the uninstall control panel and download a fresh Xampp, extracted it and ran InstallService.bat for MySQL, it says there's access denied, so I ran it as administrator, but it gives a system error 2.

when I check the services.msc both MySQL and MySQL2 still exist even though I used the windows Uninstall control panel to remove them, it must have failed.
neither of these services start, they act as if they do not exist, and yet they are in services.msc.

How can I remove these?

open your windows cmd with elevated administrator rights (rightclick -> run as administrator)

Code: Select all
sc delete mysql
sc delete mysql2

P.S.: not a XAMPP issue, so wrong forum. I have moved your thread

Thank you, those commands worked to remove the services, however the install still fails.
Installing MySQL as an service
the system cannot find the path specified
the system cannot find the path specified
try to restart the MySQL daemon as service
the service name is invalid

more help is available by typing net helpmsg 2185
press any key to continue.

I have used xampp in the past and never encountered these strange errors, not sure what is causing this.
net helpmsg 2185 says the service name is invalid

Well maybe after you have deleted the software you forgot to restart your computer. If you did restart your computer then I guess some of the files are still in you program files. You have to run the uninstall program to completely remove it from your system. Otherwise they will keep detecting the older version and stop you from installing the new one.
