how set lampp sql as default?

I currently have an mysql version in my system (fedora core 2) by default, but how can I put the lampp one, as default..
this is 'cos when I run mysql in a terminal... it appears an error ('cos is stopped).
So what I must do to set mysql as default in my system ????
