ftpd and mysql

I was wondering if there was an easy way to use mysql to manage the proftpd users. I have found tutorials on the internet that are supposed to do so (IT Werx), but proftpd wont start up with the new configuration. It does not recognize the directives, such as "QuotaEngine" in the mysql section of the proftpd.conf file.

I have heard that Pure-ftpd has that functionality built in. Does anyone know of an easy-to-install pure-ftpd distro?
