unable to access phpmy admin!!! PLEASE CHECK

By using xampp's web interface I'm not able to load correctly php my admin.
Before I set the password, the php myadminweb page was loading just partially (no images) and VERY SLOWLY.
this time I get only the password input form (which still loads EXTREMELY SLOWLY) and when I'm redirected to phpmyadmin's index I just get a 404 error...which actually closer to a connection timing out.
Any help?
