Hi there!

I'm using debian sarge and wanted to try a web mail. I use postfix and wanted to install squirrelmail and one of the dependencies are some apache related packages. My Question: how can I do to use squirrelmail using Debian so the system won't complain about dependencies? There is a Howto? (Debian+XAMPP+squirrelmail)

Thanks in advance.

Alejandro
PS: why have you banned me from the irc server?

Ubuntu Squirrelmail

Thought I might as well reply to this to show I've searched than start a new topic....
If I can figure this out this can be the howto. And who knows, perhaps matosale got it working all those years ago.

Code: Select all
Error opening ../config/default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
/var/lib/squirrelmail/data/ should be writable by user nobody
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

How do I best setup lampp so it can read things from Ubuntu? (on Lucid if it makes any difference)

I tried
adding user `nobody` to www-data,
no joy.

I am not contemplating other ways of doing it... such as chown -R nobody /targetDirectories but this is not ideal. There doesn't seem to be an option in /etc/squirrelmail/conf.pl either...?

What do you suggest?

perhaps I should download a separate SquirrelMail tarball and try to put it in /opt/lampp ?

i think that the easier way for xampp is to put a symbolic link

by default squirrel dir is /usr/share/squirrelmail

and wampp is /opt/lampp/htdocs

i think that wis squirrelmail as link in this dir will work
