mysqld not starting

Hi

I'm running Ubuntu (Debian w/ 2.6.8 kernel) on a Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop.

I'm having a problem with mysqld not starting up. The error file says:

-----------------------------------------

041115 14:43:58 mysqld started
041115 14:43:59 Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Permission denied
041115 14:43:59 Do you already have another mysqld server running on socket: /opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock ?
041115 14:43:59 Aborting

041115 14:43:59 /opt/lampp/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

041115 14:43:59 mysqld ended

-----------------------------------------

But I can't find another mysqld running: ps aux | grep mysql as root shows nothing. Also, my clock is set to the correct local time :)

I've noticed that there is no /opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock file - is this right?

thanks,
Adam
