Apache Web Server Fails to Start

Postby stephenmolnar » 02. March 2023 21:40

I have just installed Xampp-8.2.0-0 on my Debian Bullseye platform. When I first ran the application and clicked on 'Start All', both MySQL Database and ProFTPD started, but the Apache Web Server did not start.

The Application log showed:

Starting MySQL Database...
/opt/lampp/mysql/scripts/ctl.sh : mysql started at port 3306
Starting Apache Web Server...
/opt/lampp/apache2/scripts/ctl.sh : httpd started
Starting ProFTPD...
Checking syntax of configuration file
/opt/lampp/proftpd/scripts/ctl.sh : proftpd started

When I opened 127.0.01 in my Firefox browser I got:

Debian Logo Apache2 Debian Default Page
It works!

This is the default welcome page used to test the correct operation of the Apache2 server after installation on Debian systems. If you can read this page, it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly. You should replace this file (located at /var/www/html/index.html) before continuing to operate your HTTP server.

Removing /var/www/html/index.html, as suggested, did not change the result at 127.0.0.1.

Trying 127.0.0.1/opt/local generated a 'Not Found'' error.

I should add that I have a running version of Apache on my Debian platform.

This is rather frustration for me as I have a correctly functioning Xampp for Windows installed on my Windows 10 platform.

Any help in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Deinstall the Debian Apache installation, it collides with Xampps Apache. You can have only one Webserver listening to Port 80 and 443. These are the standard ports of HTTP and HTTPS.

Would it be possible for the Xampp Apache server to use two other ports? The reason that I ask is that I have another program, WebMO, which is quite important for my Computation Chemistry research program.

It is possible, but after you have to apply the ports in the URLs of your scripts (what looks quite ugly) and last not least: for what?? Why do you need two times Apache? Apache is Apache, there is no sense in using two installations.

I agree, I don't need two installations of Apache. I'll have to see what the developers of WebMO have to say about using the Xampp installation.
