Request: Please add UTF8 support to PCRE for MariaDB

Postby CheckeredFlag » 30. January 2017 03:06

Currently, the use of REGEXP in any SQL query results in:
Code: Select all
'this version of PCRE is compiled without UTF support at offset 0'

This affects XAMPP 5.6.28 for both Mac & Linux (unsure about Windows).

There have been numerous posts in the support forums on this topic:

PLEASE consider adding UTF8 support to PCRE, which may be as simple as a makefile change.

I think you really should contact Bitnami directly for that issue, i am not sure if they are reading here and this issue has been asked so often, it is getting annoying (and in fact, it is quite easy to fix that one). Here is a link for a contact form:

I already contacted Bitnami. They said the request was being forwarded to their developers, but they asked me to post here too.

But we cannot do anything about that (and Bitnami should know about that), but OK, now we have the tenth or elenth post about that issue, everyone is invited to add some more useless postings, if Bitnami likes to have it...

Here is what Bitnami said:
Thanks for your suggestion!

I have let our team know about your needs. Please post your request to our community forum as well, so our team can respond directly to you there.

Since this implies that Bitnami staff monitor these forums, I would hope that they will respond to people voicing their issues that require further development.

It sounds like that - but honestly, here is no Bitnami staff involved. Me and some other "supporters" are simply users from somewhere else - exactly like you. Therefore i thought, it might be better to contact Bitnami directly, as I cannot fix the Xampp Package. Of course there are temporary fixes for that problem (you can configure and compile the desired module on yourself), but this does not influence the Xampp distribution and in my mind, Bitnami really should fix that problem, as it is already well known and is asked again and again.

There is only one forum member from Bitnami, his UserID is "Beltran" and he shows up very randomly (and not very often). But he does not apply any support, he simply tells news etc. His last posting was on June 2nd 2016 (!!), and i even dont know, if he is still a member of Bitnami. See memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=78823

I know, that is poor, but it is as it is.
