mysql access via lampp security settings

Postby phprolf » 26. February 2016 17:37

Hallo, I use XAMPP 7.0.3-0 on Lubuntu.

I have once disabled the mysql access via network with the command:
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp security

But later I had to reset this as I need it for the virtualbox guest system via Host Only Adapter: I did this in the my.cnf in /opt/lampp/etc/) and commented the line: skip-networking
according to this:
https://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?p=96598
I even restarted the computer but still I get an error in my webstite:

Warning: mysqli_query() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, null given in /opt/lampp/htdocs/sites/....

this error comes only when I access the website with an IP address but NOT via “localhost” !
(I need IP address for the guest system in vbox)

When I do /opt/lampp/lampp security again I see :
MySQL is accessable via network.
(so, the change in the my.cnf file had effect) but I get also in the Terminal:
MySQL has a root passwort set. Fine! :)

Really fine! But I never have set this password myself.
This password should be the reason for the error on my website.

Where is is password and how to change it ???

But strange for me is in phpmyadmin which is working I get the typical default message:
You are connected as 'root' with no password, … ?????

The whole "security" thing has been removed, even if it is still not removed from the lampp script. Forget the Xampp security as it as been in older versions. It has been removed from the FAQ, but unfortunately there are still some snippets in lampp startup script.

If you need to apply any security related changes, do it manually by yourself (as usual on online webspace).

I am using the xampp only for testing on my own computer.
I really would like to know where is is that password which was set automatically?
And why has phpmyadmin no password?
Obviously there are two different ones and I don't know why.
And which one do I have to use for my scripts to open the database?
