New to Ubuntu and XAMPP on ubuntu

Postby nnitin » 22. February 2014 03:40

Hi all,

I am moving from Windows to Ubuntu 12.04. I have previously used XAMPP on windows without any difficulty. However on Ubuntu 12.04. I am facing some problems. I am aware that user with root permission is usually discouraged on Ubuntu and should use sudo command for doing anything with root permission. With XAMPP I intend to do some PHP work on my laptop.

I am able to install XAMPP on my Ubuntu Lapto, however for saving a php or any file in htdocs is not allowed. I googled for the help and found many articles on how to setup development envirnoment on UBUNTU 12.04/xampp. Unfortunately, non of them worked for me? I tried with linking public_html created in my Home. This isn't working for me. Is there any detailed step by step tutorial on how to setup development envirnoment on UBUNTU 12.04/xampp. Initially I intend to do work with notepad++, but would move to Netbeans eventually. Or am I doing something wrong due to my Windows background?

I will appreciate any guidence.

Hi all,

I could make this working as per this tutorial http://computernetworkingnotes.com/ubuntu-12-04-tips-and-tricks/how-to-install-xampp-1-8-2-in-ubuntu.html
I have only made a difference that I have not made xampp start automatically. I start it via xampp-control-panel.py whenever I want.

This is a cool tutorial.
