OK -

Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.8.1...
/opt/lampp/share/lampp/phpstatus: line 4: /opt/lampp/bin/php: cannot execute binary file

Since you did not mention the distribution of Linux you installed, I'm going to take a guess you have an ARM processor based 'computer/whatever' (like Raspberry Pi, or an ARM Android single board 'puter' etc.)- XAMPP only runs on x86 and IA64 processors (read that as AMD and Intel). Other processors have differnet instruction sets and need to be compiled just for that processor family.

Corollary of the last - you need to build a real LAMP stack via the installer that came with your distribution

(my best guess with limited information)

Good Luck
