Error 1 When starting XAMPP

I had just edited my httpd.conf to allow index.htm (not just .html) and attempted to restart XAMPP. I simply got an error 1 message, and Apache didn't start.

Could you please look into /opt/lampp/logs/apachestart.log and /opt/lampp/logs/error_log. Did you find any error like messages?

Regards
Oswald

I'm not sure but I assume you changed more than the DirectoryIndex directive?

The error message in apachestart.log indicates a problem with Perl. So please try this: Deactivate mod_perl by comment out the following lines from /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf:

LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so
PerlModule Apache2

After that try restarting XAMPP again.

Good luck
Oswald

No, that was the only thing I changed when it stopped working. All I added was index.htm ... I don't know why it happened, but I'll try your instructions.

EDIT: I found this line which differs from your version:
Code: Select all
LoadModule perl_module.          modules/mod_perl.so

Could something be wrong here?

EDIT: I commented it out anyway, but there's still an error loading Apache.
