Apache will not start [Solved]

Postby kiasta » 17. October 2012 15:21

I have just installed XAMPP 1.8.1 on Fedora 17 64-bit using the 3.6.1-1 kernel, but I cannot start apache. I am able to start mysql just fine though. I'm not worried at all about ftp so that's not a concern of mine.

Here is the error I receive when trying to start xampp:

Code: Select all
# /opt/lampp/lampp start
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.8.1...
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Error 1! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting diagnose...
XAMPP: Sorry, I've no idea what's going wrong.
XAMPP: Please contact our forum http://community.apachefriends.org/f/
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP: kiasta proftpd[1924]: warning: unable to determine IP address of 'kiasta'
kiasta proftpd[1924]: error: no valid servers configured
kiasta proftpd[1924]: Fatal: error processing configuration file '/opt/lampp/etc/proftpd.conf'
XAMPP: Error 1! Couln't start ProFTPD!
XAMPP for Linux started.

And here is the error_log:

Code: Select all
# tail /opt/lampp/logs/error_log

If it helps I'm tethered to my cell phone via usb for internet.

Any suggestions? I'm quite new to Linux I just recently migrated from god-awful windows 7 (though I have no problems with xampp on my windows partition).

*EDIT* Before I started apache I did a su root, so I was logged in as root, just an fyi.

No sir, that's my login name for fedora. I haven't changed any config files, it was a fresh install.

I don't know all the Fedora Desktops (I run LXDE, Gnome & KDE) so I can't say 'where' to look for it - but use your Edit Connections to check that IPv4 is enabled and configured on at least one adapter that is also enabled.

Stop lampp first, make fix, start lampp fresh - check results. You should not 'have' to reboot your machine, but its not a bad idea either.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help, I'm not sure what the problem was but I've since re-installed fedora as the primary (and only) OS because the partition would not resize. After the re-installation I am able to run it. Thanks for the help anyways!
