Xubuntu 12.04.1
XAMPP-Linux-1.8.0
Opencart 1.5.4.1

Installed fine. Everything was running fine.

Then I set up a port 80 redirect through no-ip.com, reconfigured my router to put the server in the DMZ.
The router told me I would need to restart the system in order for the changes to take effect.
I restarted my computer (without lampp stop) and upon loggin back on...

Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.8.0...
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
Bus error (core dumped)
XAMPP: Error 135! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting diagnose...
XAMPP: Sorry, I've no idea what's going wrong.
XAMPP: Please contact our forum http://community.apachefriends.org/f/
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP for Linux started.

I only setup a port 80 redirect, I did not install any dynamic dns client.
Any ideas?

Gateway NV53 (nv5378u), AMD Athlon II X2 m300 (x64) running on Xubuntu 12.04.1 x86 installed to 16GB flash drive (No hard drive)

Likely related; upon a server restart today, linux would not boot (kernel panic) grub cannot find root=

16GB flash drive (No hard drive)

Beyond my ability to grok - but your analysis is basically correct. Linux doesn't know how to mount the filesystem I would guess. You might look for a build designed to run on a flash drive.

Good Luck
