Can't access phpmyadmin: bogus "new security concept" error

Hi,

Fresh install of xampp. I can surf to http://localhost (which redirects to http://localhost/xampp as expected) and see xampp's welcome page. However, when I try to access phpmyadmin, I get the nonsense error message:

Access forbidden!

New XAMPP security concept:

Access to the requested directory is only available from the local network.

This setting can be configured in the file "httpd-xampp.conf".

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 403

localhost
Apache/2.4.3 (Unix) OpenSSL/1.0.1c PHP/5.4.6

I AM accessing from the local host, so that doesn't make any sense.

Any workaround, other than commenting out the "new security concept" restrictions completely??? I do want to keep the access restricted to local network only (btw, looking at the httpd-xampp.conf it seems to be supposed to restrict access to the local _host_ rather than local network, but anyway), but not so much that it is not accessible at all in any way!!!

Ok, this fixed the issue:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=50902&p=196185#p196185

Whay I don't understand is, if this is known since July (and it is pretty critical), why the fix hasn't been released yet.

There is a new beta in the works. Got to the Beta page to test it.

You mean xampp-linux-1.8.1-beta1 ? That's precisely the one I'm using.

Then do what the beta page tells you to do - report the problem on the form there. That way it goes to the development team, Shout at them! LOL - I don't do that part of the work here.

We don't support Beta version on the Forum.

Good Luck
:)
