Domain Name

Postby randor » 14. September 2012 13:20

Hello my Apache Friends.. (escpecially JonB, whom seems to be the man around here),

Another issue has occured that stumps me. I figured out the domain name DNSServer thing and got my host to point to my IP address, which is static..

However, after 24 hours it still is not getting there, which makes me think it is not a propagsation thing but a configure thing.

Below I will show my httpd and extra-httpd files as I THINK it is a virtual host setting, hopefully someone can spot why it is not working and fill me in.

The error I get is the standard cannot display page error.

httpd:
Code: Select all
#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so 'log/access_log'
# with ServerRoot set to '/www' will be interpreted by the
# server as '/www/log/access_log', where as '/log/access_log' will be
# interpreted as '/log/access_log'.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used.  If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/opt/lampp"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:logs

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

As you see on there I also have setup an openssl certificate

My BELIEF is, that it may have something to do with the port (as the vhost is pointing towards port 443 and not 80, but if it is I am not sure on how to set that up because ssl uses 443 and standard uses 80??

or I could be WAAAAY off...

EDIT: Ok, so I am still trying to figure this out, and another thing that I came across is that, my static IP address (which I got from one of the "what is my ip" sites) is 70.104.xx.xxx so that is what I put in the DNS server. however, when I try to access the webserver in my network, 192.168.1.23 works (which is the internal IP the router has assigned the server, but 70.104.xx.xxx does not work when I put it into a browser to connect. Am I missing something here?? I thought that by using the static IP address it would connect??

hrmm.. I am pretty confused...

EDIT2::: Ok, so according to ANOTHER tutorial I found, changed things around a bit and have updated it above as such, I ping the blabsadmin.us from 2 different computers and have 0 loss but it still does not show the site when i goto it from the browser :(

Once again thank you for any help on this.
