Postby ashishyadav26 » 06. August 2012 18:29

Hi,

I just downloaded XAMPP for Linux onto my Ubuntu 12.04 and unzipped onto /opt. Whenever I try to start lampp I get this error "XAMPP: Couldn't start MySQL!
".

From another I setup the log and got this

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

120806 22:57:04 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /opt/lampp/var/mysql
120806 22:57:04 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled.

InnoDB: The error means mysqld does not have the access rights to
InnoDB: the directory.
InnoDB: File name /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ibdata1
InnoDB: File operation call: 'create'.
InnoDB: Cannot continue operation.
120806 22:57:04 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ashish-Aspire-5000.pid ended
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running lampp as root, any help?

Operating system error number 13 in a file operation.
InnoDB: The error means mysqld does not have the access rights to
InnoDB: the directory.
InnoDB: File name /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ibdata1

This means you have an ownership or permissions problem with /opt/lampp.

who is the owner of /opt/lampp and its subfolders?

In term

Code: Select all
cd /opt/lampp/var/mysql
ls -l

post output here

Good Luck

Hi there,
I have exactly this same problem: running ubuntu 12.04, after installing Lampp 1.81, when i run a 'lampp start' command I get "XAMPP: Couldn't start MySQL! " error.
This is the output of my "ls -l" command...
XXX:/opt/lampp/var/mysql$ ls -l
total 24
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 oct 19 06:07 cdcol
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 oct 21 11:03 mysql
-rw-r--r-- 1 oscar oscar 5 ene 10 2011 mysql_upgrade_info
-rw-rw---- 1 nobody root 2036 oct 21 10:45 oscar-PC.err
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 oct 19 06:07 performance_schema
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 oct 19 06:07 phpmyadmin

Should all the files be own by root?

Thanks very much in advance!!
