Xampp on OpenSuse 11.4 with YAST ( and not [!!!] Terminal]

good day dear community,

sorry for being the noob. I am running a OpenSuse 11.4 System. And i must say i am very very happy with it!

Now i want to install Xampp on OpenSuse 11.4 with YAST ( and not [!!!] via Terminal). I have been told to avoid any installations with terminal as all of them run into exceptions that cannot be controlled any more.

So i need to have an overview on the Repositories - where can i get the package for XAMPP on opensuse 11.4.

look forward to hear from you

Cheers DD

Hi salsa-experience,

i don't know if there is a yast repository for xampp, i'm not a linux geek. But i don't think so.
I just know, that XAMPP on SUSE Linux can be a little bit tricky, because it has to be activated in yast.

But if you want to use yast, why don't you install Apache, MySQL, php all by their own? SHouldn't be very difficult with yast.

P.S.: I use centOS for my Linux webserver machines. installing xampp in the terminal is no problem with centOS :D

Two things I can say -

1. no repos

2. You must have root access to make LAMPP start. Unless you can login as root - LAMPP is not starting, so if you have a 'desktop install' you will need to start LAMPP with Term and 'su' or 'sudo'.

Generally, installing XAMPP is just matter of copying files. There's no installation in the 'installer' sense, so I see little likelihood of errors.

And, as Altrea said, building a traditional LAMP stack is not so hard any longer, whether its yast, yum or apt-get.

Good Luck

okay well i tried to do the tasks this way here - with the following programme that guides step by step.

http://mntechblog.wordpress.com/2011/04 ... suse-11-4/

a nice and neat stepwise guide. Well now i need to start the Lamp (/on the linux machine... ) and i guess how to do that!? Note; as mentined here http://mntechblog.wordpress.com/2011/04 ... suse-11-4/ - i only did the minimal-configuration. Am i able to run the LAMP with this minimalistic
configuration. And what about the FireWall - do ihave to tunnel the local ip some how some way

i need some steps to start the Apache - and to know how to proccee - in order to install a Joomla CMS

love to hear from you

se :)

UPDATE: well great - i was convinced by your encouraggin words - and i gave it a try. First i have entered localhost into the browser! AND believe it or not: I got the following response: IT Works - great i am overwhelmed.!!!

Well waht do i have to add if i want to run PHPMYADMIN as a Tool that helps me to manage a MySQL database!? That is the most improtrant question new!!

loook forward to hear from you

greetings

I take it you took the 'Ubuntu LAMP' path then??

If so, the right place for your questions would be on an Ubuntu Forum or MySQL/phpMyAdmin forum.

If you installed LAMPP/XAMPP then the answers would actaully be different - as things go in different places based on how the stack is built. SO - IF you installed LAMPP/XAMPP, then let us know, otherwise follow my first advice

i followed this path - http://mntechblog.wordpress.com/2011/04 ... suse-11-4/

then i got the results in the browser, while i entered localhost : it works!
Well that is great . now i need to know how to ยด"talk to the Mysql-SERVER - which is configured also?

Btw: what bout the installation and the addition of a PHPMYADMIN as a Tool that helps me to manage a MySQL database!? That is the most improtrant question new!!

look forward to hear from you

@salsa - Congratulations - you have a yast (Yet Another Setup Tool) installed 'LAMP' server NOT a XAMPP/LAMMP server -

They are different animals - like say - goats and sheep - both grazing herbivores - BUT different.

so, as I just said,

If so, the right place for your questions would be on an Ubuntu Forum or MySQL/phpMyAdmin forum.
