Adding Subversion to Ubtunu Xampp 1.7.4

Im new to Ubuntu
and so I'm having some problems adding Subversion to my Xampp install.
I was able to get Xampp up and running for my websites and would now like to subversion to it. Every set of instructions i have tried has failed. Some because of EFLClass errors and others apache just wont boot. I have tried so many different things that I think a clean set of instructions to start over with would be best at this point.
Any help would be great!
