ubuntu 64 bit start assistance

This is my first Linux installation, and I am still learning my way around Linux. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit version.

I followed the instructions, read some on the Ubuntu site, and read messages here. I managed to get XAMPP installed.

Now, when I enter /opt/lampp/lampp start
I get a message "You need to start XAMPP as root!

Then I tried sudo/opt/lampp/lampp start
I get a message that reads, "XAMPP is currently only availably as 32 bit application. Please use a 32 bit compatibility library for your system."

Does this mean I need to reinstall Ubuntu as a 32 bit Operating System? Or is there something else this novice Linux user can do?

This can be closed. I found the command

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
