Recompiling xampp

Hi there,

I have found xampp an indispensable tool in the past for deploying a well stocked lamp stack. However I am now in a position where I would'nt mind recompiling some bits of the stack (xampp is so much more convenient then distro'd versions of lamp). The configures folder is very useful for this but some of the configure files contain any only configure and no make && make install commands. Does anyone know why this is and whether I should be doing the actual build as well (look at the mcrypt example). Incidentally this is would be a full rebuild substituting all --prefix=/opt/lampp with --prefix=/opt/x-lampp.
