advice for enabling SSL in apache under lampp 1.7.3a on ubu

:?: I've read, I've searched, I've tried again and again and still cannot seem to get a secured site to respond. The message I receive on my browser is "cannot establish connection blah blah blah". You know the drill!

I do have an actual ssl certificate which is stored in the proper place. I believe I have my virtual host configured properly. Lampp declares it is starting apache with SSL when it begins.

I've even tried moving my virtual host definitions directly into the httpd-ssl.conf file and assured that that file is included from the httpd.conf file. When I check the error_log the only SSL errir is a warning that SSLSessionCache is not enabled (even though I have the declarations in my virtual host config).

Due to frustration, I'm hoping someone reading this who has successfully configured XAMPP for LInux to run SSL can advice and provide some pointers and perhaps what I could look for? Also, is there a standard way to display the running apache configuration for verification?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated at this hour. Thanks

 Hmmmm, 37 views and no one uses SSL on XAMPP for Linux. Strange.
