http://localhost/ page won't appear without internet connect

I installed XAMPP on my netbook which almost never has internet. When I first tried typing http://localhost/ and http://127.0.0.1/ into my web browser, I had no problem at all. I got the XAMPP for Linux 1.7.3a page no problem. But when I disconnected my ethernet cable to go somewhere else and mess with it, I started getting a not found. I thought maybe the process stopped so I re-ran /opt/lampp/lampp start but that didn't change anything. When I plug my ethernet cable back in I can get the XAMPP page again. I did some Googling which didn't lead me anywhere helpful but I did come accross some guides that indicated that XAMPP should work without an internet connection. Any suggestions?

I didn't really solve the problem but I got around it. I created a new wireless network using the network manager and now I can see the page at http://localhost/. So I guess as long as my computer is connected to a network XAMPP won't complain. But any help on how to make it so it doesn't need a network connection is appreciated. I forgot to mention I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, if it matters.

Just read your post. Go to browser File file menu and see if there is a check next to working offline. If so, uncheck it and you should be able to access localhost fine.
Regards
