clean install

i have got some corrupt databases which always cause phpmyadmin to crash... so i thought i would just reinstall lampp and everything would be fine. so i completely deleted /opt/lampp, downloaded lampp and extracted it. restarted xampp and - the old databas is still around?! please just tell me how to get a fresh new install without any old databases.

where are the databases stored on the filesystem? i assumed it would be somewhere in /opt/lampp, but that does not seem to be the case, otherwise they would be gone after deleting.
