hi all, well im sorry to my first post is asking for help but i suppose everyone has to learn before they can teach. anyway this is where i look like the newbie i am.

(ubuntu 9.10)karmic

i downloaded the file all fine and dandy its now in my downloads folder.
when in terminal and issue the command:-
sudo tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.3a.tar.gz -C /opt

all it does is ...
give me these lines in response
tar: xampp-linux-1.7.3a.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

now i know i have other versions of MySql PhP5 and Apache 2 already installed and running if that would make any differance?
if so could anyone tell me how i can just wipe them so i can start a fresh with xampp?
if not does anyone know what the problem is?

1, you cant have more deamons running... this means you have to stop php, mysql and apache before starting xampp.
second, when you are in the folder of the download tpye "ls" and so you will see what is the name of the package, i believe you are using a wrong name :)
