Really NEW, I CANT START MYSQL, I CANT RUN OPSVIEW

HI, Im having a really messy problem here, i was using nagios with opsview, that was previously installed, then i want to install anothe module Nagvis. The problem was that i try to install xmpp because its important for the nagvis, the problem began because now nagios and opsview cant find the mysql server and of course is not running.

Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7.3a...
XAMPP: XAMPP-Apache is already running.
XAMPP: XAMPP-MySQL is already running.
XAMPP: XAMPP-ProFTPD is already running.
XAMPP for Linux started.
root@jvazques-desktop:~# /etc/init.d/mysql start
* Starting MySQL database server mysqld [fail]

HElp me please
