Migrating /opt/lampp folder to another machine

I was using XAMPP on Ubuntu 8.1, now i want to use another machine with Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) installed. How can i copy the entire folder to mantain all the same configurations to the new hard disk? I've tried just copying the folder but i have permissions problems.
Any help would be most welcome, i really need to have this working.
