Snort/Mysql/

I am needing to install Snort with mysql support in order for the snort to compile I need to type out "root" path for mysql, on my old system it was /usr/local/mysql Do i need to reload mysql stuff into the /opt/lampp directory by compiling and making mysql from source?
any Ideas appreciated..
