MySQL does not start!

When I enter the command /opt/lampp/lampp start, the following now happens.

XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...

It stays there forever and MySQL does not even start. I am running this on Debian 5.0.2 and I am user root. Yes, I have read the other topics with this same problem, but their solutions did not work. Please help! It is quite urgent!

Also, I tried /opt/lampp/lampp startmysql but it delivered the same result.

XAMPP: Starting MySQL...

Thanks in advance!
