Problems whit mysql

i have a problem whit mysql...
i install xampp on a ubuntu 8.10 intrepid and it's all ok, i have only one problem, mysql it's say me
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /opt/lampp/htdocs/xampp/cds.php on line 64
can someone help me? thanks
