Connect to a MS Access database with XAMPP 1.7.1 for Linux

Hello All,

I'm trying to connect form PHP to a MS Access database file in a Linux directory, but I get the error "Fatal error: Call to undefined function odbc_connect() in ..." .

The distribution I'm using is Ubuntu 9.04.

I'm using unixODBC and I can connect to the database with "iqsl DNS", on the shell. I have installed mdbtools too.
It seems that PHP does not recognise the function odbc_connect(), but in php.ini there is a line "extension="dbx.so".
I think it should support ODBC, since when I run phpinfo() I get "supported databases MySQL ODBC PostgreSQL Microsoft SQL Server FrontBase Oracle 8 (oci8) Sybase-CT SQLite " for dbx that is enabled.


Is there anybody that knows how to solve this problem?

Bottom line, Access is designed to run under the Windows OS, not Linux. I suggest you convert your Access to MySQL. There are a number of utilities out there that will do that for you.
