Possible problem with gdbm in xampp

Hi,

I installed xampp on my linux (Fedora 10) partition so I could learn PHP. I didn't do any special compile or change any config files around in it so it's the straight version 1.7. from the site. According to the small text next to it gdbm is included, however it doesn't seem to be working.

Couldn't open database

This is the error message I received. Help would really be appreciated. If you need any more info just ask. I'm not sure what else to include.
