gettext doesn't work with ubuntu

Hello

I'm just not able to make gettext works in ubuntu

I have a fresh install of xampp, and when looking to phpinfo() the gettext is enabled, but it doesn't work.

I'm trying with the concrete5 cms (concrete5.org) and with some samples from php.net. Concrete5 is working in well in my hosted server, but not in my local server.

anyone has a tip to configure it correctly with xampp?

ok it's working now.

I don't know why it did not before, I jus did 3 things:

installed poedit with synaptics ???
setup the caracter code set, name and version of the .po file, and compiled it with gtranslator ???
(the charset of the po was set to iso-8859-1 I replaced with utf-8)
rebooted the computer.

don't know if one or more of these actions got the concrete5 thing to works, by the way when I change the .po (or .mo) file i have to reboot or it remembers the old version ???

if anyone has some tips please tell us
