XAMPP MYSQL w/ TCP wrappers?

Greetings:

Does anyone know if the MYSQL bundled with XAMPP is compiled with TCP wrappers?

My research so far indicates that it is not but it would be great if I'm proven wrong. Unfortunately, mysqld seems to pretty much ignore hosts.allow & hosts.deny on my system (version 1.6.2 running under Redhat Enterprise 5).

Has anyone gone through the steps of recompiling the MYSQL part of XAMPP to add a feature like this? Is there a better way?
