After restoring mysql.tar with command "tar -zxvpf", I met this erro message.
[root@localhost var]# /opt/lampp/bin/mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables -u root
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /opt/lampp/var
STOPPING server from pid file /opt/lampp/var/localhost.localdomain.pid
081128 12:48:28 mysqld ended
chmod 700 /opt/var/mysql
chown mysql:mysql /opt/lampp/var/mysql
What am I wrong?

Thinking you can make a backup with tar!
What was in your mysql.tar included?
Also you could try to enable logging and get then a more informational error message:
